Albert C. Thomma 1929 ~ 2020
Albert C. Thomma longtime resident of Yonkers, N.Y. and Toms River, N.J. passed away peacefully in his sleep at Wingate Nursing Home in Fishkill, N.Y. on December 9, 2020.
Albert “Al” born in the Bronx, November 18, 1929 to Elsie (née Bothner) and Otto Thomma. Raised in the Throggs Neck area of the Bronx, he met the love of his life and best friend, Maureen (née Somers) Thomma. Together they shared a beautiful and well lived life, married 59 years, until Maureen’s passing on December 25, 2015. He is predeceased by two siblings, William Thomma and Robert Thomma. He is survived by a loving sister-in-law Theresa (Somers) Murphy, Toms River N.J., many nieces and nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Al attended Mt. St. Michael Academy, Bronx, N.Y. and Manhattan College. Upon graduation from Manhattan College he enlisted in the air force and proudly served our country. He then enjoyed a lengthy career with I.B.M, where he continued his education, earning a M.B.A, from New York University.
Al and his beloved Maureen, shared happy years in Yonkers, N.Y., their door was always open. There was always food on the table, lots of laughs and conversations nothing short of stimulating.
Prior to relocating to Toms River, N.J. he enjoyed volunteering at Mt. St. Michael’s Men’s Club. He was best known for his love of everything sports, a diehard S.F. Giants baseball and Duke basketball fan; he cheered all NY sports teams. His knowledge of sports and sporting history was unparalleled; he shared his passion with friends and family. Let’s not forget his love for trivia and telling jokes. A devoted, husband, son, uncle and friend, he will be desperately missed by all who had the honor to know him.
Due to the Covid-19 pandamic, a funeral mass and Christian burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery will be held at a later date.
