Alfred was born on June 22, 1925 in Genoa, Italy to a single mother, Rose Staffetti. He lived in the Piedmont region of Italy until age 13 when he came to New York.

Alfred met the love of his life and his best friend, Yonia Parisi in 1956 when they were both working at the American consulate in Naples, Italy . She was walking, he offered her a ride, when he spoke she realized he was Italian and she flashed him an unforgettable smile. They went out together daily and six months later were married.

From the age of 13 Alfred worked and earned a BA degree in Liberal Arts from Fordham University, a Masters Degree in Social Work from Adelphi and a Doctorate in Social Work from Columbia.

Alfred worked as a Case Manager and later Administrator in the Human Resources Administration for the City of New York. He then worked as a Social Worker in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Montrose until he retired in 2000 at age 75.

Alfred spent his retirement always close at home with Yonia in the Pleasantville he loved, enjoying simple pleasures such as getting together with his former coworkers, taking several trips to Italy, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. During his retirement he became quite a prolific and talented writer of many stories and of his childhood memories in Italy.
