Obituary for David Morris

David Morris died peacefully in his home on March 10, 2022 surrounded by loved ones after a 5-year battle with lung cancer. David was the youngest of six children born to a widowed mother in 1940 in the Bronx, NY. These humble beginnings sparked a lifelong love of New York City and the Yankees. From a very young age, he worked to help support his family by delivering papers, packing groceries, and working on the docks. These tough jobs helped him build compassion for others' hard work and ultimately fostered an incredible work ethic that he carried into his career as a plumber. As a plumber, David helped family, friends and customers with plumbing emergencies and home improvements for decades, working multiple jobs at times. Even in his later years, David loved the opportunity to provide his input and expertise whenever he could.

As a grade schooler, David met Mary, the love of his life, who he went on to marry and start a family with after serving proudly in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Perhaps his biggest goal in life was to make Mary happy and he worked tirelessly to do so. Some of their favorite trips together were to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Aruba, and Disney World. Mary and David shared a common generosity, always supporting their family and friends in any way they could.

David was a sports enthusiast and collected an encyclopedic knowledge of baseball and football over his lifetime. He could answer virtually any baseball question before Alexa or Siri had even begun to compute the answer - and he enjoyed demonstrating this knowledge. David was also extremely social and people always gravitated to him. From the grocery store to sporting events, it seemed as if his stories could always draw a crowd.

David is survived by his daughter, Debbie Kalensky, grandchildren Matthew, Taylor, Samantha, and Jessica, his cat Maggie, as well as 3 granddogs who enthusiastically shared his love of quality NY Pizza thanks to his constant generosity. He was especially proud of the accomplishments of his grandchildren over the years, sharing news of Samantha’s and Jessica’s musical talents, and Matthew’s and Taylor’s educational and athletic accomplishments. More than anything, David deeply loved his family. He will be greatly missed.
