Obituary for Donald George Chin

Donald George Chin, 80, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, April 28th 2022. Born on October 27th, 1941 in Jackson Town, Jamaica. He was the eldest son of Chin Qui Shing (William) and Wu Chung Ying (Annie) and was one of 8 children. While growing up in Jamaica, he attended Cornwall College, an all boys high school in Montego Bay. In 1964, he immigrated to the United States for more opportunities, and resided in Woodside, New York. He attended New York Institute of Technology, and graduated in 1968.

He met his bride-to-be, Myrna Lue Qui, at a house party and they got married in November 1969. They were blessed with a son and a daughter, and raised them in Brooklyn, New York. They shared their beautiful life together for 53 years.

Donald is survived by his wife, Myrna; his son, Geoffrey and his wife Resha; his daughter, Charmaine and her husband Jason; and his four grandchildren, Gavin, Ethan, Kayden and Shia.

When it came to family and friends, Donald was always patient and kind. He would always lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Even though he was a man of few words, he had a great sense of humor and enjoyed the company of others. He was always excited whenever he would meet other fellow Jamaicans and could talk about life “back home”.

Donald loved cooking, organizing get-togethers and spending time with his family. He especially looked forward to taking road trips with his sister Monica to Canada. There he would enjoy socializing and catching up with all of his siblings, their spouses, and his many nieces and nephews.

One thing everyone knew about Donald is how much he adored and loved his four grandsons - more than anything else! He was so proud of all of their accomplishments and they always knew how to make their Gong Gong (grandpa) laugh.

He will be greatly missed and remain in our hearts forever.
