Obituary for Dr. Grace Lamacchia-Paris

Grace Lamacchia-Paris died on January 25 in Newtown, CT.

Born November 7, 1939 in the Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of Italian immigrants Antonio and Paola Rosa Lamacchia from Matera, a small city in the Basilicata region of Southern Italy. She spent most of her youth in the Bronx attending Catholic schools. She then earned her BA, MA and PhD all in English Language and Literature from Pace University in 1961, Bowling Green University in 1962 and New York University in 1964, respectively.

She spent most of her career as a professor of English and British and American literature at Pace University in Pleasantville, NY. She mentored hundreds of students, teachers, friends and family to help them reach their academic and career goals. She loved to read, write, watch old films and theater, visit museums and spend time with her two boys, their significant others and her grandchildren.

Grace is survived by her eldest son, Nicholas S. Paris, his wife Heidi and their four children: Nicholas Joseph, Theresa Grace, Luke Alexander and Matthew Augustine Paris. She is also survived by her youngest son, Stan Paris, Rochelle and their daughter Kalea Grace Paris.
