Obituary for Fredric Douglas Hillmann

Fredric D. Hillmann passed away on December 8, 2021 in his home in Pleasantville, NY. He was born in Flushing, Queens to Frederick and Saima (Nordbloom) Hillmann, and raised in Mineola, Long Island. Fred proudly served in the US Marine Corps 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, known as “The Walking Dead,” during the Vietnam War, and was awarded the Purple Heart. After returning home, Fred joined IBM where worked for 30 years, and more importantly met his wife Bea. Fred and Bea were happily married for 41 years, living and raising their daughter Erica in Pleasantville. Fred loved his two "bossy women," and filled their home with laughter and happy memories. Fred loved anything with an engine – vintage cars (he owned 4!), motorcycles, planes – and he even held a private pilot’s license. He collected any spare part, nut or bolt he could find, and always had a project ready - including building his own BD5 plane. Sadly he was unable to own the "junkyard" of his dreams for all his treasures, much to the relief of his family.

While he lost friends in Vietnam, he gained brothers for life through the many Veterans' and Military organizations in which he was an honored member: the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 49, Military Order of the Purple Heart, 1/9 Association and Marine Corps League. His love of motorcycles and pride in service lead him to becoming a charter member of the Nam Knights of America MC, where he held multiple offices and was awarded a lifetime membership by the Hudson Valley chapter.

Fred is predeceased by his parents and sister Ruth Cleary. He is survived by his beloved wife Bea (Roach), cherished daughter Erica, nieces, nephews, cousins and many lifelong friends.

The family will receive friends, Tuesday December 14, 2021, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home, 418 Bedford Rd, Pleasantville, New York. A graveside service will be held Wednesday December 15, 2021, 11:00 AM at Ferncliff Cemetery, 280 Secor Road, Hartsdale, New York 10530.
