Obituary for Helen T. White (Healy)

Helen Theresa White (Healy) passed away on April 20, 2020 at the Victoria Home in Ossining, NY due to complications of the Coronavirus. Helen was born on August 13th, 1931 in the Flower of Fifth Avenue Hospital in Manhattan to Cornelius and Nora Healy, immigrants from County Kerry Ireland. She lived in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx and was baptized in St. Jerome’s parish. As an infant, Helen and her family moved back to Rathmore, Ireland where she lived until sometime before World War II when the family moved back to the Bronx settling in the Highbridge section. Helen attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and Walton High School. At a young age she went to work as a telephone operator for the New York Telephone Company in Manhattan and later on at the H. W. Wilson Company, a publishing company on University Avenue in the Bronx. She met Thomas Michael White at a VFW dance in the Bronx and in 1957 they were married in Sacred Heart Church. Helen and Tom moved to Yonkers, then to Peekskill, Pleasantville and Fairfield Connecticut. Helen was predeceased by her husband Tom after 49 years of marriage at which time she moved to Mount Kisco, NY.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and homemaker, Helen loved spending time with her family and friends. Helen was very proud of her Irish Heritage. Some may remember her for her famous Irish Soda Bread recipe. Helen loved vacationing in Atlantic City, Long Beach Island, Montauk, and Florida. She loved Bingo, bowling, slot machines, Irish music, and the Weather Channel.
Helen was predeceased by her brothers Ted, Jack, and Cornelius (Bob) Healy and survived by her sister Mary Ann Owens, her brother Patrick Healy, her son Thomas Whyte and daughters Ellen Ferguson (Dave), Maureen Whyte (Ray) and Theresa McAvey (Eugene). Helen was also the loving Grandmother of Gibson, Heather, Kevin, Christopher, Mary, Sarah, Erin, and Andrew. Helen was a Great Grandmother to Kayla Helen.
Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no Funeral Home or Church services. A small graveside service with family members present will take place at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. A memorial Mass and gathering of friends and family will take place at a future date (to be announced).
