Hun Chuen Lam (Chuen) of New York, NY, age 73, passed away peacefully in her sleep at The Riverside Rehabilitation and Healing Center on April 13, 2020 after a valiant battle with Parkinson’s disease, breast cancer and bronchiectasis. Chuen is survived by her loving children: her son Kenneth of New York, NY, her daughter Cynthia (son-in-law, William Hui) of Staten Island, NY, her daughter Sylvia (son-in-law, James Valdata) of New York, NY, and her two adoring grandchildren: Christopher and Alexandra. She was predeceased by her parents Sum Yim Fan and Sou Fun Kong Fan and Chou Wan Kong Fan, her brother Hon Wai Fan, and her beloved husband of 40 years Bowce.
Chuen was born in Panyu District, China, and the family resided in Mei Foo Sun Chuen, Hong Kong where she attended elementary school, Ming Tat Primary, and Houng Kong Middle School. In 1964, she married Bowce in Hong Kong and immigrated to the United States. They lived in Chinatown, NYC, where she was a seamstress in the garment district and worked as a hotel worker in Manhattan.
She was one of 10 children. She is also survived by
her brothers: Hon Tung Fan, Hon Man Fan, Hon Kuen Fan, Hon Kit Fan;
her sisters: Nancy Fan Lau, Fanny Fan, Pandora Fan Leung, Flora Fan Loxton;
her nephews: Gary Fan (wife, Wing Fan), Jonathan Fan (wife, Kelvina Cheung Fan; son, Linden Fan), Tat Fan (wife, Teresa Fan; son, Jayson Fan), Peter Fan (wife, Kelly Li Fan), Alvin Fan, Kevin Chow, Kelvin Leung;
her nieces: Patsy Fan Popelas (husband, John Popelas), Carol Fan Chow (husband, Andy Chow), Crystal Lau Hester (husband, Jeffrey Van Hester), Twinko Fan, and Lauren Loxton;
her sister-in-laws: Teresa Pow Fan, Veronica Hung Fan, Julie Wan Fan, Wai Lin Lee Fan;
and her brother-in-laws: Hon Shek Lau, Patrick Kwok Wah Leung, Ian Loxton.
She always put her family first and had a big heart towards helping others. She enjoyed singing karaoke songs at her local senior center and library, and taking English language classes at her library. Other hobbies included international travel and cruises with family and friends, learning tai chi, cooking, sewing and doting on her grandchildren.
Chuen’s happiest times were spent with her family and friends celebrating birthdays, holidays and Chinese New Year festivities.
Due to Covid-19, there will be no Wake Service held at the Beecher Flooks Funeral Home Inc., 418 Bedford Road, Pleasantville, NY 10570 and the burial will be held at Kensico Cemetery of Valhalla, NY on Monday April 20, 2020 at 12 Noon.
