Obituary for Jane Yuk Chu (Leung)

On Saturday, January 8th, 2022, Jane Yuk Chu, loving mother of four children, passed away at the age of 90.

Jane was born Leung Yuk Ching on March 26th,1931 in Sunwei District, Canton, China.
Her family escaped to Vietnam during World War II. She later moved to Hong Kong where she married Lamtin Chu in 1950 and had her first son, Lance. In 1953 she immigrated to New York City where she raised three other children, Janet, Janice, and Larry.

Jane enjoyed listening to Chinese opera and frequently playing mah jong with her friends. In her later years, with her children grown, Jane was an avid traveler and cruise enthusiast. Jane took up ballroom dancing and enjoyed learning tango, cha cha's and rumba whenever possible. She was an excellent cook and well known for her flavorful, healthy home made soups and crispy fried chicken! She kept the Chinese tradition alive by speaking Cantonese, reinforcing customs, foods and holidays that represented our Cantonese/Hoisan heritage.

However, nothing was more important to Jane than her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was a frequent part of all of their lives. Jane had a dynamic social personality and loved by many friends and family. She always did anything she could to help her friends and family in need.
