Obituary for John T. Gribb

John T. Gribb passed away in Hawthorne, NY on March 16, 2021. He was celebrated professionally for his contributions to the aerospace field, and admired among friends and family for his leadership and mentoring skills.
John was born August 21, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY. He was educated at Brooklyn Technical, the U.S. Naval Academy, and Pratt Institute, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1951, and was elected to an engineering honor fraternity.
He began his engineering career at Arma Corporation, and then worked at the Norden Division of United Technologies for more than thirty years, where he became Vice President. Among his many successes, he managed pioneering projects that developed electronic flight displays for aircraft, and command and control systems for the military, helping to make the world a safer place. After retiring from Norden, he consulted in the medical instrumentation field, continuing to mentor others – sharing the skills that had made him so successful. He was noted for his disciplined “by the numbers” approach to problem solving, accompanied by a wonderful sense of humor that made it even more effective.
John was proud of his Russian heritage. His language skills, and understanding and appreciation for other cultures, led to many business and personal international relationships that he cherished.
John is survived by his wife Eugenia (of 69 years), sons Paul and Mark Selivan, and their families. He will be fondly remembered for enriching the lives of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Humane Society.
