Obituary for John E. Guarino

On Sunday, February 28, 2021, John E. Guarino, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away suddenly at the age of 82 in Vassar Hospital, Poughkeepsie, NY.

Born on June 3, 1938, in Mount Vernon, NY, John lived a life full of laughter. He was a prankster at heart and loved to tell jokes. He loved all his children, grandchildren, and extended family and never missed a moment celebrating their lives. A retired veteran of the Harrison Police Department and later Chappaqua Transportation, Sergeant Guarino had a work ethic compared to none. To the time of his passing, he continued working providing custom leather products to the professional community. He loved music and was an accomplished drummer. He enjoyed capturing moments in photos and film which serve as a legacy for us to cherish. His motto was, “Remember the good times.” And with him, they always were.

John is survived by his wife Patricia Guarino, son John Jr., his daughters Valerie, Lori, and Carol, his children’s spouses, Diane Howe Guarino, Robert Kerr, and James Pray, his ex-wife and mother of his children Mae Evensen, his grandchildren Amanda, Alisha, Ashley, Scott, John III, Madison, Hunter, Mylie, and Ryan, great-grandchildren Kylie and Arianna, stepchildren Christopher Thompson, Debra Lee Shaughnessy, John Shaughnessy, and their spouses Lauren Thompson, Heather Shaughnessy and step-grandchildren Everly Thompson, Liam, Donovan and John Jr. Shaughnessy, his sisters Claire Mills, Barbara and husband Tom Smith, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends.

John was preceded in death by his father John Guarino and mother Pearl, sisters Louise, Genie, Lynn, and Gerri.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021, at Beecher Funeral home on Bedford road from 2 pm - 7 pm.

Flowers can be sent to Beecher Funeral Home, or in lieu of flowers, the family requests that you send donations to your favorite charity.
