Obituary for Joseph C. Mustich

Joseph Cosmo Mustich died peacefully at his home on Thursday morning, December 9, 2021, at the age of 96 surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Joseph was born in the Bronx, New York on May 14, 1925 to Joseph and Angelina (Serrilli) Mustich. He attended Evander Childs High School and graduated in 1939. Joseph proudly served his country in the Army in World War II as a combat veteran in the Philippines. On November 7, 1946 he married Julia Poli, the love of his life. Joe was an adoring and devoted husband of more than 60 years. He was a salesman for Nabisco for many years. He was a parishioner of Saint Frances of Rome Church in the Bronx and later Holy Innocence Church in Pleasantville. Joe was a CYO Youth Coordinator and a Eucharistic Minister. After raising his family on Digney Avenue in the Bronx, Joe and Julia moved to Pleasantville.

Joseph was a devoted and cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Julia, his siblings Celeste Farina, Louise Gliatta, Annina Walsh, Louis, Peter, Anthony, and Angelo Mustich, and daughter-in-law, Susan Mustich.

He is survived by his brother James Mustich and sisters-in-law, Lorraine, Tina and Elizabeth along with his four children, Angela Rapa (Sam), Louis Mustich, Jo-Ann Cavallo (Paul) and Anthony Mustich (Barbara). Joe was a proud Grandpa to his eleven adoring grandchildren: Brian Rapa, Jennifer Coughlin (Michael), Tricia Rapa, Susan Emanuel (Victor), Ian Mustich (Irene), Joseph Mustich (Kelly), Dr. Jaime Cavallo, Paul Cavallo Jr. (Jessie), Dr. Julie-Ann Cavallo-Fleming (Richard) Jillian Gallagher (Chris), and Luke Mustich. Joe cherished his sixteen beautiful great-grandchildren: Meghan, Katie, and Morgan Coughlin, Julia and Sophia Lisi, Brayden Rapa, Victor, Lauren and Anthony Emanuel, Ethan and Aaron Mustich, Grace and Joseph Mustich, Mila and Oliver Fleming and Ella Cavallo.

Joe loved spending time with family and friends. He was warm and kind hearted. His smile was contagious, and his quick wit would make you laugh. He enjoyed working in his garden, playing cards, taking trips to casinos, watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and playing games with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe loved listening to and singing Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Artie Shaw, and Bing Crosby songs. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Joe strongly believed when you have God’s love in your heart, you have all the wealth in the world. He was richly blessed with faith, family and friends. He will forever be in our hearts. We love you most.
