Obituary for Linda Mariuzza (Lovisa)

Adelinda “Linda” Mariuzza, formerly of Briarcliff Manor, NY, passed away peacefully on May 15. She was born March 28, 1931, in the hills of Friuli, in the Northeast corner of Italy. An eye infection prevented her from emigrating to America with the rest of her family before the outbreak of World War II, so she spent her childhood in war-torn Italy in the care of her Aunt Vittoria. It would not be until 1947 that she would complete the journey of her parents and meet her new, American-born sister in Corona, Queens, NY. Peter Mariuzza, who lived across the street, fell madly in love with the Italian beauty as soon as he laid eyes upon her, and they were married in 1955. They spent 62 loving years married until Peter’s death in 2017. Linda spent many happy years as the proprietor of Bellitas Gifts in Pleasantville, where people would stop by just to chat and always leave feeling better. Linda is survived by her three children: Paulette (Sladkus) of Briarcliff Manor, Lisa (McCullagh) of Pleasantville, and Peter Mariuzza of Mt. Kisco. She loved her children’s spouses, Dan, Dave and Natalie, as if they were her own. The role she really cherished was as “nonne” to her grandchildren Kelly Anne and Colette McCullagh, Dana Sladkus, and Dylan and Kayla Mariuzza. She is also survived by her sister Hilda (Cookie) of New Mexico. A private viewing for immediate family only will be held at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home in Pleasantville, NY, on Tuesday, May 19, at 11am, followed by internment at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY. The family hopes to have a memorial service when we can all finally be together one day, to celebrate the life of our beloved Linda who is finally reunited with the love of her life, Peter. Since Linda was a true lover of all animals (like a real-life Snow White, birds would alight upon her shoulders) the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to SPCA of Westchester and Simpson Clinic in Briarcliff Manor, NY.
