Obituary for Nancy J. Andersen

Nancy J. Andersen died Wednesday, July 29 at Calvary Hospital in The Bronx after a battle with cancer. She was 62.
The daughter of the late Richard and Joan Andersen, Nancy was born on June 28, 1958 in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from Fort Hamilton High School, and began her lifelong career as a nurse when she received her nursing degree from the Long Island College Hospital School of Nursing in 1978. Nancy worked at Long Island College Hospital for more than 35 years, in both general medical surgery and in the Intensive Care Unit. She was a passionate advocate for the hospital, and fought alongside her coworkers to protest its closure in 2014. In recent years, Nancy provided compassionate end-of-life care for patients at Calvary Hospital in The Bronx, where she would eventually become a patient herself.
A lifelong resident of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, Nancy was an excellent baker, a talented crochet artist and enjoyed playing music in the handbell choir at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasantville, New York. Nancy was a faithful fan of the New York Mets and loved to attend games with friends and family.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Paul Meberg of Pleasantville, NY, niece Karen Meberg (Dave Wilson) of Brooklyn, NY, nephew Eric Meberg (Ellie Meberg) of Harrisburg, PA, and niece Sonja Meberg of Pleasantville, NY.
A memorial service for immediate family will be held Sunday, August 9 at 12 PM. Due to COVID-19, extended family and friends are invited to participate in the service virtually.
Donations may be made to Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Ministries, Emanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasantville or Calvary Hospital in the Bronx.
