Sebastian Ben Berte, 93, of Pleasantville, passed away on September 1st at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx.
Ben as he was know by everyone, was born in Tuckahoe, NY to Francesco Berte and Maria Fichera on February 28th,1927. He went to Pleasantville High School and graduated from Kansas State University. Ben married Angelina Cucciarre on June 26th, 1955 in White Plains, NY. His career as an accountant spanned many decades while working for Sonotone and DPF until his retirement in 1989. He was also a veteran who served in the Army during World War II.
Ben is preceded in death by his wife Angelina, his sister Frances and his brothers Tom and John.
Ben is survived by his son Stephen, his son Ben and his wife Cathy, his son Joseph and his wife Georgianne and his son Michael and his wife Anne. He is also survived by his sister Mary and his brother Frank. Ben is also survived by his seven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Ben loved playing and watching all sports. He will fondly be remembered as the loudest voice in the stands at his sons sporting events. He also loved his bowling nights and bocce with family and friends.
He was involved in the American Legion, Mount Pleasant Italian American Association and Pleasant Seniors of Mount Pleasant.
He was honored for his many years of service as Treasurer of the Mount Pleasant Italian American Association and was inducted to the Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.
Ben was once asked what he wanted his legacy to be. He laughed and said “I’m not worried about legacy, I just want to be remembered as a good husband, father and friend”. No question he will be remembered as such.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Hospital in Bronx, NY.
A private funeral service and burial will be held on Saturday, September 5that All Souls Cemetery in Pleasantville.
