Theresa J. Murphy (née Somers) longtime resident of Bronx, N.Y. and Toms River, N.J. passed away peacefully at home September 29, 2022.
Theresa born in the Bronx, March 23, 1929 to Mary (née Wilson) and Felix Somers; the 10th child of fourteen and and last surviving. She is predeceased by her thirteen siblings and their spouses. Raised in the Bronx, she considered Throggs Neck her most favorite community. Theresa married Patrick (Packy) Murphy on February 16, 1993, a true fairytale ~ longtime family friendship turned love story. Together they enjoyed twelve blissful years traveling between Bronx, N.Y. and Toms River, N.J., while wintering in Gulfport, Florida. She is survived by many adoring nieces and nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Theresa was known for her deep love of family, throughout her lifetime she assisted family and friends navigate life’s hurdles. Her deep Catholic faith guided her to advocate for all who needed help. If you were fortunate to be her friend, she was your friend forever.
Theresa attended Aquinas High School, soon after she began a lengthy professional career with Eastern Railroad Association. Upon retirement she focused her attention to volunteering at hospitals and other organizations. Theresa was the founding editor of the Eastern Railroad Retirement newsletter, keeping retirees connected and friendships evolving.
A Mass of Christian Burial and Christian Burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Chapel @ Gate of Heaven Cemetery on Saturday, November 12th at 11:00 am.
