Obituary for Margaret Burgess (Rooney)
Margaret Rooney Burgess, 86, of Winter Haven, Florida and formerly of Cortlandt Manor, New York passed away on March 2, 2015. She was born on December 1, 1928 in New York City. She retired from the Board of Cooperative Education Services (BOCES) after 20 years of dedicated service. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas, parents, Matthew and Margaret Rooney, daughter, Mary Theresa Burgess, brother and sister-in-law John (Frances) Rooney and niece Patricia Rooney. She is survived by daughters Margaret Lenihan (William) and Eileen (Al) Holden, grandchildren Matthew and Caroline Lenihan, nephew Matthew (Marcia) Rooney and niece Alice Rooney. Her Catholic faith and love for her family and friends were the focus of her life.
The family will receive friends on March 8, 2015 from 3-7 PM at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home (beecherflooksfh.com) in Pleasantville, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on March 9, 2015 at 10 AM at Holy Innocents Church, Pleasantville, New York followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Church of the Assumption, 131 Union Avenue, Peekskill, New York 10566.
