Joseph P. Ponturo, 92 of Hawthorne, NY died June 3, 2015. He was born in Pleasantville, NY on October 16, 1922 the son of the late Leo & Fortunata (Patane) Ponturo.
Mr. Ponturo served in the US Army during WWII, with the 311th Infantry Regiment, 78th Division, and was awarded the Bronze Star, and was wounded twice in action and received the Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster.
He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, and was past President of the Mount Pleasant Board of Education serving for 5 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Phyllis (Foca) Ponturo. Beloved father of Paul (Carolyn) Ponturo and Lisa (Tom) Young. Adored grandfather of Ivy Ponturo and Tara Vogl. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Ponturo was predeceased by his sisters; Lucy Wallace and Katherine Guarnaschelli and brothers; Leo Ponturo and John Ponturo.
