Obituary

Joseph J. Grillo Jr., a longtime resident of Armonk, New York passed away in the presence of his loving family on October 6, 2020 at the age of 69 after complications from ALS.

Joe was born on October 14, 1950 in The Bronx, New York to Joseph and Theresa (Musco) Grillo. He graduated from Monroe High School, attended Kansas Wesleyan University and transferred to L.I.U. Brooklyn where he played baseball and graduated. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers and played one year of Minor League Baseball before returning to coach and start his 35 year career as a teacher for the Yonkers Public School District.

Everyone will remember Joe as a bigger than life person. Loving family member and friend, Mr. Baseball, teacher, coach, and the person who mastered making the best mozzarella in the world! He worked hard and played even harder. He was stronger than Superman and told some of the most entertaining and funny stories imaginable. He was a rare combination of someone who loved life, sports, food and entertaining by hosting the most memorable parties with his former wife Mary Ann however his number ONE joy were his two grandchildren, Jude and Brielle.

Joe is survived by his daughter Daria, her husband Kelby and their son Jude, his son Joseph, his partner Jess and their daughter Brielle, his sister Louise and Duane, his brother Frank and his wife Linda, his significant other Andrea, as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. All of whom he adored.

Memorial services for Joe will be
Monday October 12th, 3-8PM at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home in Pleasantville New York.
Funeral Mass on Tuesday October 13th, 10AM at Holy Innocents Church in Pleasantville, New York.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Teamgleason.org, an organization that works hard to improve life for people living with ALS.

Our family lost a truly extraordinary man, a father, a brother, an uncle, a friend and a cousin.
Our family has been forever changed but our faith assures us Joe is safe and reunited with all our loved ones who went before him.

Really can’t find the words to express what I’m feeling.. a life well lived leaves beautiful memories that not even death can take from us. I know you are happy in the heavens and reunited with so many of our beautiful angels, including your bestie. It will be hard to not miss having your love here but I’m always looking for the signs, as we did together. We fought for justice so dad could have his reckoning day and I will never forget the talks we had then and how you fought with us for truth and justice. No more pain my beautiful cousin... until we meet again, Tony, Ava and I will hold the memories forever in our hearts and minds. Rest easy and please hug my dad for me! #253 xo
